Relative Value Unit Report

Relative Value Units, colloquially known as RVUs, are a compiled system of codes through which Medicare puts a value of a particular service performed by a provider. RVUs determine exactly how much reimbursement will be received by a provider for delivering care. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid break down one whole RVU into three parts: work RVUs, practice expense RVUs, and malpractice RVUs. This report focuses on work RVUs as it highlights the dollar amount a physician is entitled to for providing healthcare.

For this project, RVU data is monitored and collected for the practicing physicians at Upstate Cardiology at the end of each month. Following the data compilation, I would input the appropriate information onto a spreadsheet with its corresponding CPT code. This enables the practice to tabulate individual physician performance on a monthly basis and compare RVU trends from year to year.
